The Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood is a single malt matured first in refill American oak casks, then finished for a further nine months in first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry butts. It is bottled at 40%, and the expression was launched in 1993.
The nose is nutty and spiced, with honeyed sultanas and grapes. The palate is sweet with good body: bourbon character, gentle spice and vanilla, a hint of peat, then dried fruit, nuts, nutmeg and cinnamon. The finish is spicy, slightly drying and still sweet.
