A 12-year-old Balvenie single malt from the Stories series, built around new American oak. Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie had virgin oak barrels brought from Kentucky to Scotland, where they were heavily toasted in the distillery's cooperage and then filled with whisky previously matured in ex-bourbon casks. The aim was to bring out the fruity, sweet side of Balvenie. It is bottled at 43%, chill-filtered and with added colour.
The nose opens with malt and sweet fudge, followed by citrus, vanilla oak, ginger and cinnamon. On the palate come candied orange and lemon peel, vanilla toffee, buttery caramel and blossom honey, with spiced oak at the end. The finish is full and malty, with soft vanilla and gentle spice.
