Balvenie 16 Year Old French Oak is a Speyside single malt from the Balvenie distillery, in a 70cl bottle at 47.6%.
It matures for 16 years in American oak, then spends a further period in French oak casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes. It is bottled without added colour.
The nose has fresh and ripe pears, red apples and apricots, with gentle sawn oak, a sweet flan base, vanilla cream, sliced strawberries and honeyed blueberries. The palate is medium-bodied, with orchard fruit, blueberry yoghurt, sweet vanilla biscuits dusted with icing sugar and soft allspice. The finish is medium in length, with drying green apple peel.
