This is a 16 year old Balvenie single malt finished in French oak casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes. Pineau is a fortified wine made from unfermented grape juice with cognac eau-de-vie added, then aged. The whisky is bottled at 47.6% ABV.
It is the first Balvenie finished in French oak. The idea came from a brand ambassador, who suggested exploring these casks to the malt master after a family trip to the Charentes, where he remembered enjoying Pineau as an aperitif.
