This is a 16 year old single malt from the Balvenie distillery in Speyside, in a 70cl bottle at 47.6% ABV.
It was first aged in American oak casks, then moved into casks that previously held French Pineau. That second stage brings honey-glazed fruit and a subtle leafy hint.
The nose has gingerbread and sponge cake with a splash of grapefruit. The palate offers almond pastries, honeyed apricot, geranium, buttery vanilla and a little toasted cedar. The finish returns to citrus and honey, with a hint of honeydew melon.
