A 40-year-old single malt from The Balvenie in Speyside, bottled at 42.2% in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to the Rare Marriages series, for which malt master David C. Stewart MBE chose rare casks of American and European oak and married the whiskies in a traditional large oak vat.
A limited edition without added colour, it comes in an oak-based presentation box with graded rings of colour.
Honey and orange marmalade meet creamy fruit on the nose, then vanilla and a touch of oak. The palate shows orange blossom, candied ginger and honey, followed by oak, vanilla and soft sherry fruit. The finish is warm, with honey sweetness and rich citrus.
