This is a 12-year-old Speyside single malt from Balvenie, bottled by the distillery at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky spends ten years in bourbon casks, then two more years in a sherry cask finish, which gives Double Wood its name.
The nose offers sweet orange and honey with vanilla and nutty notes, a hint of sherry and oak, malt and a light touch of citrus. The palate is soft and creamy, with honey, vanilla, red berries, orange and a little cinnamon spice. The finish is dry and spicy and long-lasting, with oak, sweet vanilla and a gentle trace of sherry.
