This is Benchmark Old No. 8, a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery, bottled at 40% (80 proof) in a 75cl bottle. It matures in new charred American oak barrels.
The colour is a bright, light golden amber. The nose is soft and sweet, with caramel, vanilla and light oak over a delicate fruity background. The palate opens smooth, with sweet corn, brown sugar, honey and light spice, plus faint earthy touches and dried fruit. The finish is clean and moderate, with a warm memory of wood and a lingering sweetness.
