Bols Genever is a traditional Dutch genever from Lucas Bols in Amsterdam, a distillery brand founded in 1575. It is bottled at 42% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
Over half of the blend is maltwine, a pot-distilled spirit of malted barley, rye and corn, mixed with neutral grain spirit. The botanicals are distilled separately in copper pot stills, then blended with the maltwine and aged in oak casks.
The nose brings fruitcake, raisin scone and dried flowers. The palate is smooth and medium-full, with malt sweetness, restrained juniper and sweet oatmeal. The finish is moderate, with dried flower, fennel and a touch of black pepper.
