A 15 year old Islay single malt from Bowmore, called Mariner, bottled at 43% ABV. It was a travel retail release, made by combining ex-bourbon casks with sherry butts.
It is described as smoky and intense in the old Islay style, with a bite of sea salt across the nose, palate and finish, and some pleasant fruitiness and sweetness alongside the smoky coastal notes.
The nose has dark chocolate, sun-dried fruits and a wisp of Islay smoke. The palate brings cedar wood and rich treacle toffee, and the finish is robust and complex with a hint of sherry tannin.
