This is a 17-year-old Islay single malt from Bowmore, distilled in 2004 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society from cask 3.332. It spent fourteen years in ex-bourbon wood before moving to a first-fill re-charred barrique, and 255 bottles were filled, each in a 70cl size.
The nose is a seaside barbecue: seared scallops and bacon, toasted buns, treacle, tar, tobacco and peat embers. The palate offers blood orange, cognac, golden syrup, pork crackling, burnt heather and wood smoke. With water come hickory-smoked surf and turf, pipe tobacco smoke, maple syrup and black bun.
