Braes of Glenlivet – 1998 25 Year Old Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice (60.1%)

This is a 25 year old single malt from Braes of Glenlivet, now known as Braeval, distilled in 1998 and selected by Gordon & MacPhail for its Connoisseurs Choice range. It is bottled at a cask strength of 60.1%. The distillery was built in 1973 by the Chivas group. It stands 350 metres above sea level and is described as the highest in Scotland, using water from the Pitilie Burn. The whisky matured in a single second-fill American oak hogshead, which is said to have left the malt's buttery, exotic character intact despite the strength.
