Bruichladdich – 1986 Valinch (50cl, 53.5%)

This is a 1986 single malt from Bruichladdich on Islay, distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery. It comes in a 50cl bottle at 53.5% ABV. Tasting notes describe a nose of raisins, figs and ripe dates, with cane honey, toasted sugar and chocolate-covered fruit, then polished wood, old leather and pipe tobacco. The palate is oily and dense, with bitter dark chocolate, dark cherry jam, wild berries, black pepper and a touch of coffee or walnut. The finish is medium to long, warm and spiced, with oak, bitter cocoa and a faint salty note.
