Bruichladdich – 25 Years Old Sherry Cask Edition 1990/2016 (70cl, 48.1%)

This is a 25 year old Bruichladdich from Islay, distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2016 at a cask strength of 48.1%. It is an unpeated single malt in a 70cl bottle, first released for the Travel Retail market, and limited to 6000 bottles. The maturation was complex, worked out in collaboration with winemaker Jan Pettersen, and used both Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Sherry casks are an unusual choice for Bruichladdich, whose new make is fairly delicate and floral, and the distillery takes care that the sherry does not overpower that character.
