This is a 12 year old Bunnahabhain from the Pride of Islay series, bottled by Thompson Bros. as a small batch at 46.1% in a 70cl bottle. The unpeated Islay single malt is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring.
Over five years of its maturation were spent in first-fill Madeira barriques, casks that had held Madeira wine and were being used for whisky for the first time.
On the nose, ripe red berries sit beside fresh citrus oils, with a maritime, mineral note. The palate is full-bodied, pairing the sweetness of red fruit with walnut oil. The long finish brings honey sweetness and warm baking spices.
