Cruach-Mhòna is a peated Islay single malt from Bunnahabhain, a distillery better known for unpeated whiskies. The Gaelic name means 'peat stack'. It belongs to the distillery's smoky Mòine range and was first made for travel retail.
The whisky is matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 50% in a 1 litre bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The nose combines crisp, lightly sweet peat with dry wood fire, grassy smoke, fresh herbs, hay and sea air. The palate begins light, malty and sweet, then gains power, with white pepper, smoky peat, salty seaweed and kelp.
