Abhainn Araig is Bunnahabhain's bottling for the 2022 Fèis Ìle, the Islay festival. It is a single malt at 50.8% in a 70cl bottle, released in a strictly limited run.
The whisky marries spirit matured in former bourbon casks with spirit from PX sherry octaves made from specially seasoned European oak, chosen by hand to push the limits of sherry maturation. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring.
The nose brings chocolate, ginger powder and a cigar box. The palate is velvety, with creamy milk chocolate, sweet raisins and dried raspberries, then balsamic vinegar and honeyed macadamia nuts as the PX develops. The finish is deep and rich, with dark toffee and a spicy burst of cinnamon.
