This is Staoisha, the peated malt from Bunnahabhain on Islay, matured for ten years entirely in a first-fill French West Indies rum cask. It was distilled on 13 October 2014 and bottled on 6 November 2024 for Michel Reick's Best Dram series, with 218 bottles drawn from the single cask.
It is bottled at cask strength, 53.9%, without chill-filtration or added colour. The rum cask brings fruity agricole notes and sugar cane alongside the peat smoke.
The nose is smoky and dry, with sugar cane, tropical fruit, iodine and salt. Smoke and iodine lead on the palate, and the long finish pairs peat smoke with sweetness and a lingering maritime note.
