A blended Irish whisky from Bushmills, sold as The Original 1608 and dating from the 1980s. It includes a crystal malt component and was aged in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks.
The nose is rich, with toffee, dark honey and roasted nuts, then dried fruit, oak spice, a touch of smoky malt and vanilla bean. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with caramelised sugar, hazelnut, spiced apple, dark chocolate and black pepper. The finish is long and warming, with cinnamon, nutmeg and dried apricot, fading to toasted grain and light sherry sweetness.
