This is a 13 year old Caol Ila from Islay, distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2022 by Gordon & MacPhail. It is bottled at 45% in a 70cl bottle, without added colour and without chill-filtration.
The distinctive step is a two-year finish in casks that held Sassicaia, the Tuscan red wine.
The nose combines smoked bacon and peat smoke with a hint of orange and bright citrus. The palate is oily and creamy, with some liquorice root and resin, dark berries and bonfire smoke. The finish is long, with pronounced smoke and blackcurrant.
