A 17-year-old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, bottled at a cask strength of 57.5% ABV. It spent almost three of those years in an ex-bourbon quarter cask, after an earlier period in a hogshead.
Only 89 bottles of 70cl were drawn from the cask, with no chill filtration and no added colour. The quarter cask added depth and complexity without softening the peat smoke for which Caol Ila is known.
It is described as powerfully smoky, with a fine sweetness behind the smoke, and a long, distinctly medicinal finish.
