This 9 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila was matured in a first-fill Amontillado sherry hogshead. It was distilled on 29 August 2013 and bottled on 6 February 2023 at a cask strength of 58.4% for Auld Goonsy's Malt, a Global Whisky Limited brand that releases only single casks. The outturn was 299 bottles, non-chill-filtered and without added colour.
The nose is nutty and woody, with smoked meat, honey, fine pipe smoke and dark chocolate. The palate is gently smoky but creamy and full, with oriental spices, dark chocolate and roasted notes. The finish is long and oily, with roasted chestnuts, soft smoke and a little pepper.
