This is a 24-year-old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, released to mark the distillery's 175th anniversary. It comes from a limited edition of 3000 bottles. The distillery was founded in 1846 and sits on the sound between Islay and Jura.
The nose combines peat smoke with maritime notes, ripe fruit, honey, vanilla and citrus peel, with a little spicy oak beneath. On the palate the texture is soft, with smoke running alongside salted caramel, pear, citrus fruit, vanilla cream and fine spice.
The finish is long, with returning waves of gentle smoke, sweet fruit and a delicate hint of sea salt.
