Caol Ila Distillers Edition 2001-2013 is a limited Islay single malt bottled at 43% ABV, with 6,000 bottles filled. It matured for 11 years in ex-bourbon casks, then received a finish in Oloroso sherry casks.
The sherry finish is said to add dried fruit, spice, vanilla and wood to the smoky character of the distillery.
The nose is intensely smoky, with sweet dried fruit, spice, vanilla and wood. On the palate there are peat, smoke, toffee, honey, dried fruit, spice and a touch of salt. The finish is long, with smoke, sherry and maritime notes.
