This Caol Ila Distillers Edition is an Islay single malt distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2019 at 53.2% ABV. It matured for around 12 years in ex-bourbon casks, then received a finish in casks that previously held sweet Oloroso sherry.
The nose combines strong smoke with dried fruit, spice, vanilla and caramel. On the palate there is peat, smoke, toffee, honey, dried fruit and spice, with a touch of salt. The finish is long and warm, smoky and fruity with sweetness and a little spice.
