Cardhu Gold Reserve House Targaryen belongs to the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection, a 2018 to 2019 collaboration between HBO and Diageo. The packaging carries the three headed dragon sigil of House Targaryen, a pairing linked to Helen Cumming and her daughter in law Elizabeth, the women who built Cardhu distillery in Speyside.
The single malt is matured in toasted oak and ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 40% ABV. It is chill filtered and coloured with caramel.
The nose is candied malt, warm honey, orchard fruit and a hint of cocoa. The palate is light and sweet, with apricot, banana, baked apple, toffee and gentle cinnamon, and the finish is soft and lightly spiced, with lingering oak.
