Obtainium 5 Year Old is a straight-style rye from Cat's Eye Distillery of Bettendorf, Iowa, bottled at 56.1% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It comes from the distillery's Obtainium series of sourced whiskeys.
The rye was distilled at MGP in Indiana on 31 March 2016 from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. It spent five years in a used charred oak barrel and was bottled on 15 September 2021.
Rye spice leads on the palate, with rye bread, nutmeg and cracked pepper over vanilla, dried fruit and toasted oak. It is lighter than the strength suggests, and the finish is long and warm.
