Château Coutet 2011 is a sweet white wine from Barsac in Bordeaux, from an estate classified as a First Growth. It is made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, grown on limestone and clay soils by vines averaging 35 years old. This bottle is a 37.5cl half.
The 2011 season began early, with a dry spring and a cooler summer. A fine late season brought on noble rot, first seen in August. The name comes from the Gascon word for knife, pointing to the estate's fresh, crisp style.
Heather, honeysuckle, quince, white peach, mango, pineapple and citrus zest meet a flinty mineral note. On the palate, honey and spice sit against vivid acidity.
