This is a 35 year old Bas-Armagnac from 1989, bottled at 59.1% vol as a Vintage Reserve. Château de Laubade is a family-owned, 105-acre estate in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, dating back to the 1870s and run today by siblings Denis, Jeanne and Arnaud. The nose opens with dusty florals, candied fruits, pecans and magnolia, then pine resin, nutmeg and cumin. With time come liquorice, marshmallow, tobacco box and Earl Grey tea. The palate is rich yet delicate and perfumed, with florals, chocolate soufflé and macaron, then cream soda, cardamom and juicy melon. The finish is medium, earthy and oaky, with tobacco leaf.
