Cley – Dutch Malt & Rye Whisky Cask Strength (52%)

A cask strength Dutch whisky from the Cley Distillery in Rotterdam, made from two thirds malted barley and one third rye. The distillery works with organic grain from the region. It is distilled three times in a copper pot. After three years in ex-bourbon casks, it moves for a second maturation into small, heavily charred virgin American oak casks. The rye brings spice and a subtle peppery edge, with a hint of orange peel. The palate offers ginger, black pepper, orange peel, toffee, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, toasted gingerbread and citrus marmalade. The finish is long, intense and spicy, with a warm, complex spiciness.
