This is a 25 year old single malt Clynelish from the Highlands, distilled in 1995 and bottled by Whisky Sponge as Edition No.38. It is the first instalment of a series called The Descent of Sponge.
It was chosen as the palest of three refill sherry butts of Clynelish 1995, and is bottled at natural cask strength of 54.5% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is lightly sherried, with lemon, mint, lamp oil, candle wax, honey and gooseberry. On the palate come grapefruit, lime, chalk, paraffin and a coastal note, balancing sweetness and austerity. The finish is fairly long, waxy and citrusy.
