This is a 1995 Clynelish single malt from the Highlands, aged for 26 years in a refill sherry butt and bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.7%. It is Edition No.39 from Whisky Sponge, in a 70cl bottle.
The refill cask lets the distillery character come through, with wax, oils and minerals alongside soft dark fruits, tobacco and hessian. The sherry influence is balanced and does not follow the typical Oloroso character.
The nose has porridge, sunflower oil, waxed paper, golden raisins and apricot. The palate brings oranges, ginger, leather and waxy citrus, and the finish is long and minty, with tangerine and a drying chalkiness.
