This is a 25 year old Clynelish from the 1995 vintage, bottled by Whisky Sponge as Edition No.38 at a natural cask strength of 54.5% ABV. It was matured in a refill sherry butt and is the first part of a Clynelish series called The Descent Of Sponge.
The nose is only lightly sherried, with lemons, mint, lamp oil, candle wax, honey, chalk and clay, gooseberries and a hint of tinned pineapple. On the palate come grapefruit and lime, chalk, paraffin and coastal, mineral notes, balanced between sweetness and austerity. The finish is fairly long, waxy and citrusy, with lightly sweet stone fruits.
