This is a Clynelish single malt from the Highlands, distilled in 1995 and matured for 25 years in a refill sherry butt. It is Edition No.40 from the independent bottler Whisky Sponge, bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.6% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is meaty and savoury, with Maggi, miso soup, cooked vegetables, walnuts, mushrooms and mulching leaves, turning more herbal with air. The palate is again savoury, with tobacco, leather, parsley, roasted chestnuts, mint, herbal tea, salted liquorice, caramel and chocolate. The finish is long, with herbs, a salty note and chocolate-coated nuts.
