Flaming Heart is a smoky blended malt from Compass Box, first introduced in 2006 and inspired by a rock song. This is the eighth release, made for the company's 25th anniversary and bottled at 48.9% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
It is built from peated malts from distilleries including Talisker, Laphroaig, Benrinnes and Williamson, matured for up to 17 years. The casks are new charred American oak and custom French oak, with a touch of Marsala barrique.
The nose is oily smoke and piquant spice with raspberry, apricot, biscuit dough and tarred rope. Smoke leads the palate, with cloves, pepper, nutmeg and medicinal peat. The finish is long, with ash, menthol and citrus oil.
