Spice Tree is a blended malt Scotch whisky from Compass Box, made from Highland single malts with components of 10 to 12 years old. It is bottled at 46% and is non-chill-filtered.
Its character comes from custom hybrid oak casks, with French oak heads on American oak bodies. The whisky is first aged in first-fill and refill American oak barrels, then re-casked into these hybrids. The original version was banned by the Scotch Whisky Association for its use of new oak inner staves, which led to the hybrid cask design.
The nose is clove, cinnamon and nutmeg over vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is full and sweet, with malt, toffee, building spice and dark chocolate. The finish is medium to long, with clove and bittersweet chocolate fading into oak.
