The Peat Monster is a smoky blended malt from Compass Box, bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is made mostly from Caol Ila and Williamson malts with a small share of Highland malt blend. The malts matured mainly in refill hogsheads, while the Highland part went into heavily toasted French oak. Compass Box does not chill-filter or colour it. First made in 2004, it remained in the range when the core collection was renewed in 2024.
The nose offers juicy peach, soft creamy smoke, salted butter and sweet meringue. The palate is creamy, with ripe mango and pineapple carried by peat and a fine floral note. The long finish brings sweet smoke, fruity meringue, fruit sweets and gently smoked meat.
