The Peat Monster is a blended malt Scotch whisky from Compass Box, bottled at 46% ABV. It is natural colour and non-chill-filtered.
It began in 2003 as a bespoke peated blend that Compass Box founder John Glaser made for a liquor shop in New York, and it went on general release in 2004. The current edition is built mainly on Caol Ila, with a smaller part of malt known to the blender as Williamson, which is teaspooned Laphroaig. A 1% Highland malt blend finished in heavily toasted French oak adds clove spice.
The palate is creamy and fruity, with sweet smoke, driftwood bonfire and sea spray, along with spiced apple and vanilla.
