This is a vintage Bas-Armagnac from the Collection Unique of Maison Darroze, distilled in 1986 at a single property, Domaine de Cantau in Mauléon-d'Armagnac, in the Landes. It is bottled at 49.5% vol.
The blend is 50% Baco and 50% Ugni Blanc, grown on tawny sands on a vineyard of about one hectare run by Guy Beyris. The spirit was distilled in a continuous Armagnac still and aged for many years in oak casks.
On the nose it is rich and pastry-like, with crème brûlée and vanilla leading, then caramel and gingerbread. The palate opens broad and expressive, with spice coming through.
