David Nicholson 1843 is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 50% ABV, or 100 proof, in a 75cl bottle. It follows a wheated recipe first sold in 1843 from a grocery store in St. Louis, with wheat used in place of rye alongside corn and malted barley.
The whiskey is double distilled in copper pot stills at Lux Row Distillers in Bardstown, Kentucky, then aged for at least four years in new, charred American white oak barrels.
The nose is honeyed, with toasted wood, vanilla bean and light caramel. On the palate come vanilla, butterscotch and oak, with a little cinnamon and brown sugar. The finish is warm and lingering, with gentle spice, toasted nuts and a touch of dried fruit.
