Dhumat is a Tamdhu from Speyside, bottled in 2026 by Scotch Universe. It has matured since October 2008 in a first fill Barolo barrique, a former wine cask from Piedmont, and nowhere else.
Its deep russet-brown colour and layered flavour come from long contact with the wood and the wine left in it.
The nose shows ripe berries, a hint of sherry and spiced tobacco, with soft vanilla and warm oak. Firm tannins from the Barolo cask meet sweet toffee and dark berry fruit on the palate. The finish is long, with bitter cocoa and oak, and dried berries linger.
