Elijah Craig 18 Year Old Single Barrel is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill, released annually since 1994. It is named after Reverend Elijah Craig, the Baptist minister credited as the father of bourbon for his early use of charred oak barrels.
Each bottle comes from a single barrel and carries its own bottling date and barrel number. The mash bill is 78% corn, 12% malted barley and 10% rye, aged in new charred American white oak and bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
The nose combines caramel, dark chocolate, toasted oak, vanilla and orange, with honey, dried cherry and cinnamon emerging. The palate is nutty and richly textured, with plum, dried apple and a hint of coffee. The finish is long, with rye spice, dry oak, vanilla and pepper.
