Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV) in a 750ml bottle. The mash bill is 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley.
It starts as fully matured Elijah Craig Small Batch, then spends a second period in new American oak barrels made with Independent Stave Company. The staves were air-dried for 18 months, given a moderate toast and finished with a flash char.
The nose brings vanilla bean, toasted marshmallow, dark caramel and brown sugar. The palate is creamy and full-bodied, with milk chocolate, butterscotch, graham cracker, cinnamon and nutmeg. The finish is long and warm, with charred marshmallow, oak spice and dark chocolate.
