Frederick II is a peated single malt from Hercynian Distilling in Germany, distilled between 2016 and 2018. It matured first in Amarone hogsheads and then received a finish in Marsala casks.
It was bottled in 2026 at natural cask strength, 57.1%, as an edition of 1,220 bottles of 70cl. It is neither coloured nor chill-filtered, and comes in a wooden box.
Tasting notes describe intense cherry, raisins and spice on the nose, with pleasant smoke alongside. The palate is strong and dry, with sweet cherries, plums, grapes, peat smoke and dark chocolate. In the finish, dry smoke and peppery spice meet a slight mild-coffee bitterness, balanced by fine fruit sweetness.
