Expresiones del Corazón Añejo is a 100% Blue Weber agave tequila at 40% ABV, from Casa San Matías in Los Altos, Jalisco. It spends 19 months in barrels that previously held Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye whiskey.
The rye-seasoned oak gives the tequila a spice-forward character over the earthy backbone of highland agave.
The nose opens with wood and jasmine, then ginger, anise, chocolate, orange peel and cinnamon. The palate brings toffee, fig cake and candied fruit, then earthy agave, almonds, mint and cardamom. The finish is long and warm, with allspice, coconut and nutmeg, and a dry, minty close.
