Distillery
Freimeisterkollektiv
Type
Sweet vermouth
This sweet vermouth is made from Uhudler, an unusual Austrian wine grown in a small area between southern Burgenland and eastern Styria. Lisa Bauer turns it into vermouth for Freimeisterkollektiv, a collective of small independent distillers and bartenders. The Uhudler's aromas are extracted by vacuum distillation at low temperature, then the wine is macerated with bitter wormwood, gentian root, liquorice, lemon balm, orange and elderflower, and lemongrass. Intense strawberry and blackcurrant come from the ungrafted hybrid vines, together with the characteristic foxy note of Uhudler. It can be drunk neat, over ice or in cocktails.
