A five-year-old straight rye whiskey from Frey Ranch Distillery in Fallon, Nevada, bottled in bond at 50% in a 750ml bottle. The mashbill is 100% winter cereal rye, grown, malted and distilled on the Frey Ranch estate.
Bottled in bond means it was distilled in a single season by one distiller and aged in a federally bonded warehouse. This rye has had five years, a year more than the four-year minimum.
The nose shows rye spice, toasted wood, vanilla, caramel and grapefruit zest. The palate is peppery and balanced in sweetness, with ginger, black liquorice, cardamom and vanilla pudding. The finish is long and warm, with honey, raisin, dark chocolate and white pepper.
