G.E. Massenez Liqueur de Roquefort (25%)

This is a savoury liqueur from Distillerie G.E. Massenez in Alsace, a house producing liqueurs since 1870. It is made by infusing the essence and character of Roquefort blue cheese into a neutral spirit, then lightly sweetening and smoothing it. The aim is aromatic depth and savoury, umami-rich character rather than sweet fruit or botanicals, so it suits cheese boards and cooking more than cocktails. The nose is savoury, with blue cheese, aged milk and a saline note, plus buttery cream, toasted walnut and cracked pepper. The palate is rich and creamy, with tangy blue cheese, roasted nuts, honey and caramelised milk sugar. It finishes long, herbal and earthy.
