Gérard Bertrand Legend Vintage Maury 1929 (75cl, 17%)

This is a 1929 vintage Maury, a fortified wine from Gérard Bertrand in a 75cl bottle at 17% abv. Maury is fortified on the whole grains: alcohol is added to the fermenting must to stop fermentation, and the wine macerates for up to three weeks. The vines grow on dark schist and marl soils that hold the day's heat and release it overnight. The colour is limpid amber with a light caramel brown. The nose offers gingerbread, vanilla and cinnamon, candied fruit, cherries in brandy, blond tobacco, nuts and leather. The palate is balanced, with melted tannins, crunchy fruit and the sweet warmth of candied sugar. Roquefort, chocolate puddings or fruit suit it well.
