This Glen Elgin is a 15 year old single malt from the Manager's Dram series, bottled on 28 January 1988 at a natural strength of 60.2% ABV. The Manager's Drams were first produced for the distillery's staff and friends, and this one was matured in a sherry cask.
Sherry shows strongly on the nose, alongside chocolate ganache, cigars, old balsamic vinegar and glazed chestnuts. The palate is oily but silky, with plenty of bitter chocolate, tobacco, bitter oranges, prunes, liquorice and a little salt. The finish is extremely long, lifted by a herbal note and ending with peppermint.
